Guido Scarabottolo (b. 1947, Sesto San Giovanni) is an Italian illustrator and graphic designer based in Milan. Trained as an architect at the Politecnico di Milano, he began his career in the 1970s working in visual communication before becoming one of Italy’s most distinctive contemporary illustrators. His work has appeared in major publications such as Internazionale, The New Yorker, and The New York Times, and he is especially known for designing Guanda’s book covers between 2002 and 2015.
Alongside his editorial collaborations, Scarabottolo has published numerous books and exhibited widely in Italy and abroad, from Venice’s Querini Stampalia Foundation to the Italian Cultural Institutes in New York and Dublin. He has also worked extensively in children’s literature with publishers such as Topipittori and Terre di Mezzo. Today, his practice spans illustration, publishing, and teaching, always marked by a playful, essential, and highly recognizable visual language.
