Stefan Marx
Smallville Records
The exhibition presents a vast selection of vinyl records designed by Stefan Marx for the renowned Hamburg-based label Smallville Records. Marx has shaped the label’s visual identity since its founding, making each release instantly recognizable. Displayed on the 606 shelving system by Dieter Rams for Vitsœ, the covers form a striking archive of two decades of music and design, highlighting the deep collaboration between artist and label.
Smallville Records, founded in Hamburg in 2005 by Julius Steinhoff, Stella Plazonja and Peter Kersten (aka Lawrence), is a record label dedicated to deep house and techno. Closely tied to the city’s underground music scene, it has become internationally respected for its warm and distinctive sound, championed by a core collective of artists including Christopher Rau, Moomin, Smallpeople, STL, Move D & Benjamin Brunn, Juniper, and Jacques Bon.
During the exhibition, visitors can browse the record covers and listen to music on a Braun system kindly provided by Bliss. Vitsœ planners will showcase the adaptability and enduring design of Dieter Rams’ iconic furniture system.
